Ozark Legends question

Ozark Legends question

I dont know where to begin.  I have been a geocacher since 2005, but just now registered to SLAGA, back when I first started, I done the Wildcat Mountain cache.  Well I am married, and introducing my family to geocaching and hiking and outdoors.

My ULTIMATE GOAL, is to do an overnight camp hike at bufford Mountain on 4th of July, overlooking belleview MO, perhaps watch other fireworks going off.  As starter or training hike, I want to take them to Taum Sauk Mountain, then a Hike in Camp to Wildcat Mountain, cause it is 2 miles and the 'saddle' makes it fairly easy.

What alarms me,is, I rechecked that Wildcat Mountain Cache site, and on it talks of The Devil living at Wildcat moutantain, and anyone who camps there ends up going insane.  How can I further research these legends, or the early legends of the Taum Sauk mountain Indians.

Thanks.

Re: Ozark Legends question

Hi and welcome to SLAGA! You're right, there's not a lot of easily accessible information on Native American legends. Your best bet would be to contact the cache owner and ask him where he learned about the legend. He may have even made the whole thing up. Looking at GC5E5, it appears that the cache owner hasn't logged on to GC.com in about a year, but I think I would start by sending a message to him and see if he replies.
